5 STEPS TO A PERFECT MORNING ROUTINE

    February 26, 2015

I believe that the way you start your morning affects completely the way you spent the rest of the day. Of course it’s a fact that attitude does 90% of the work, but I insist: a very well spent morning gets to a day full with great content.

    • WAKE UP EARLY

This is probably one of the best advices I can give you and the hardest to follow (at least for myself).  The more time you spend in your bed the more it gets difficult to leave it. It is proven that the most successful people wake up before 8:00 in the morning. Waking up early allows you to achieve all the goals you have planned for that day and also gives you discipline. Despite the terrible feeling of sleepiness right before you leave your bed, after getting up early you will have a very pleasant feeling throughout the day.

    • MAKE A LIST.

I have found that writing down everything I need to complete everyday helps me to achieve my goals, stay focused and have a well-planned day. The way it works for me is writing down my activities and mark them according to if it is an achieved task, a cancelled one or a task on the run. I do this in a notebook but you can work with any electronic device you feel ok with. My advice is that one of the first tasks you need to do in the morning is to check this list so you can plan your day prior to all activities.

    • GET READY

Even if you are not going anywhere, showering makes you feel like you already achieved something and that you are ready to do anything at any moment. It also helps waking you up on those sleepy days. To be honest most of the time that I work from home I just get into the shower and put some loungewear, but I´ve found that putting some makeup on can cheer you up and leaves the feeling that you can conquer the world.

    • EAT SOMETHING YOU LOVE

Whether is a bowl with berries or a cheese omelet, I have found that eating is inspiring. Although it is the most important meal of the day people very often skip it. My advice is taking your time the night before to prepare a healthy breakfast. I can recommend a smoothie if you are running out of time or a bowl of nice warm porridge with some nuts and fresh fruit. Of course it is always better if you can sit down for 15 minutes and be aware of what you’re actually eating. Never ever start your day drinking only coffee, your energy will completely run out at 2pm and you will be starving and eating the entire fridge at lunch time.

    • TAKE A BREAK

Even though you are having a very busy day, you need to find at least 5 minutes for yourself. There is a lot of activities you can do real quickly and that are distressful. Sometimes I like to walk the dog, water the plants, or paint my nails and then resume the rest of my activities. I have found that doing this affects in an absolute positive way my productiveness and sometimes even feeds my creativity.
