Serves up to 2 big mugs!
Last week a group of friends and I were spending a very fun Friday night just chillin’ and playing board games, (yes, on a friday night!). One of the trivias was to name several types of tea. Of course, Chai was named as a type of tea, such as black, white and green. We LOL because nobody knew that Chai is in fact a blend not a type, so after this, and having realized that Starbucks Chai Cream Frappuccino has more than 500 calories, I decided to give it a go to my own blend of this popular beverage.
INGREDIENTS
3-4 tbsp. loose black tea (prepackaged tea bags works too)
1-2 star anise
1 tbsp. cardamom
5-6 cloves
3-4 slices of fresh ginger
1-2 cinnamon sticks
1 Tbsp. of vanilla extract (or even better a fresh vanilla bean)
2 cups of water
½ cup of milk (you can use also, almond, or rice, and as much as you want)
Your favorite sweetener to taste! I use 1Tbsp of brown sugar.
INSTRUCTIONS
Bring the water to a boil with the anise, cardamom, cloves and ginger.
Reduce heat to low and add tea, cinnamon sticks, vanilla, sweetener and milk
Stir and let it simmer for about 3 min.
Remove from heat.
Strain it!.
Tip!
If you like the frappuccino version, you can let it sit until warm and blend it with some ice. You can put on top some delicious whipped cream.
