Cold Brew Coffee
Days are getting warmer and warmer, so I have been moving from a hot mug to an iced coffee. I recently discovered Cold Brew in contrast to traditional iced coffee which is brewed hot and then cooled over ice, it’s brewed entirely with cold water for 20 hours or longer. This hot brewing cooled process makes coffee more bitter, because of the intensity of the flavor extraction by hot water and then diluting it aggressively. Cold Brew on the other hand, is a gentler process and as a result it produces a delicious smooth, sweeter, and bitter-free drink that actually can be served over ice or heated for a nice warm cup of coffee.
Cold Brewing has a basic formula that anybody can do: cold water, coffee beans and overnight brew.
You want to start with fresh ground coffee. There's a lot of recipes on internet but the one that works for me is 1 part of coffee for 4 parts of water.
Give it a quick stir before you let it brew at least 20 hours.
Then the only thing you have to do is to strain it. I did it with a coffee filter.
Add milk (any kind you like)
Lasts up to 2 weeks on the fridge.
Cold Brew is a coffee concentrate, so you want to serve half and half (milk or water).
If you have a French press this actually is easiest since you don't have to strain it separately!
